Recent gage-height measurement
All qualifying measurements use one color because gage heights are relative to site-specific datums. Values cannot be compared as a national severity scale.
How to read this
Fact: each marker is a recent USGS stream-site gage-height measurement, usually reported in feet. The popup preserves its time-series ID, measurement time, reported unit, and approval status. Limit: gage height is water-surface elevation relative to a site-specific reference datum. It is not water depth, and values from different sites are not directly comparable. The map infers no normal condition, anomaly, flood stage, bankfull level, trend, road condition, navigability, safety, ecological effect, or compliance.
Source contract
USGS modern Water Data OGC API, latest-continuous, parameter 00065. Requests are anonymous, keyless, limited to stream sites in the visible bounding box and preceding 48 hours, capped at 500 features, and protected by a 60-second client cooldown. Missing, nonnumeric, nonpoint, or older records are excluded. Negative values are retained because they can be valid relative to a local gage datum. No credential, proxy, saved measurement snapshot, or proprietary GIS service is used. Source/license notes · USGS API documentation
