What is mapped
EPA’s national BEACH Program geospatial snapshot supplies 8,450 valid beach reference coordinates across 36 state, territorial, and tribal jurisdiction codes. It identifies beach profiles and whether an identifier is historical.
The local snapshot does not contain current advisories, closures, sample results, or swimming-safety determinations. Use the official BEACON links for the selected beach and confirm locally before visiting.
Source dates and limits
EPA’s download page labels the national extract April 28, 2024; its archive is named beach_20240228 and contains beach_20240229.gpkg. All included profiles report a latest beach year of 2023.
Points are source reference coordinates—not beach boundaries, monitored station locations, contamination extents, or conditions. “Historical ID” is an EPA record flag, not a closure or safety status.
