What is mapped

The transparent rail overview is derived from 235,426 U.S. line records in the archived BTS/FRA NARN snapshot. State summaries use source record counts and source-reported mileage fields.

A weather polygon drawn over a rail line shows geographic coincidence only—not a closure, delay, track condition, damage report, or operating restriction.

Limits

Rail geometry is simplified and rasterized for overview use. NWS alerts change, may lack polygons, and load only on request. This map does not calculate route exposure, risk, service availability, ownership, or safety. Use official rail-operator and emergency-management information for decisions.
