What is mapped

The local snapshot retains 8,502 rows with valid coordinates from nine FAO AQUASTAT regional workbooks. It omits 6,078 rows without coordinates rather than geocoding or guessing locations.

A natural event at or near a mapped point shows geographic coincidence only—not dam safety, failure probability, structural condition, storage status, water level, downstream impact or operational status.

Limits

FAO says the source files are incomplete, may contain errors and are not updated frequently. Reservoir attributes may be missing or dated. Points are not dam footprints, reservoirs, inundation zones or inspection records. EONET is an event catalog, not a warning or exposure model.
